Many local tour companies offer a chance for their guests to give back and plant a tree as part of their trip, so please ask your tour guide. Otherwise, you can donate to a group like the Whakatipu Reforestation Trust or keep an eye out for a community planting day.
Volunteer with Baskets of Blessing
Baskets of Blessing is a community group which meets weekly at St John’s Church in Arrowtown to prepare meals for those in need. Members of the public anonymously nominate someone in the Whakatipu community who is facing hardship (death, injury, financial woes, etc) and that person will receive a week’s worth of meals for their family for free. Basket of Blessing welcomes walk-ins who are keen to help cook, prep, or pack up the meals, and also accepts donations.

We encourage you to slow down and buy local and stay local in Arrowtown. This mindful travel will give you a chance to learn more about Arrowtown, make more memories to take home and also support locally owned and operated small businesses.

Enter the bi-annual Arrowtown photography competition
Arrowtown’s bi-annual Photography Competition accepts entries from amateur photographers who have taken photos of Arrowtown and its surrounds within the last two years. The competition runs as part of the Autumn Festival and shortlisted and winning photos are displayed during the festival at Lakes District Museum.
Buy an Arrowtown calendar
Each year, we create a calendar showcasing some of best shots of our picturesque Arrowtown. The 2025 edition is now available and can be purchased in stores throughout Arrowtown including the Lakes District Museum and The Post Office.
