Arrowtown is conveniently located just 20 minutes from Queenstown airport
Arrowtown is nestled in the picturesque Arrow Basin between Queenstown and Wānaka and three ski fields. The town centre is walkable and almost everything is close by. The town has plenty of bike and car parks and is serviced by the Orbus public bus. There are also taxi and shuttle services.
Driving from Queenstown
If you are travelling from Queenstown, there are two ways to get to Arrowtown and both are a 20-25 minute drive. The first is known by the locals as the ‘back way’ or the ‘scenic route’ from Gorge Road through Arthurs Point and past Coronet Peak, along Malaghans Road past Millbrook Resort. This route offers views of farmland, mountains and picturesque valleys. The other is along Frankton Road and through Frankton, over the Shotover Bridge and past Lake Hayes.
Driving from Wānaka
If you are coming from Wānaka, the fastest and most scenic way is via Cardrona and the Crown Range Road (NZ’s highest main road). As you go down the steep ‘zig zag’ Crown Range, glimpse panorama vistas towards Arrowtown and Queenstown. At the bottom of the road, turn right onto SH6 and follow the Arrowtown signs at the next intersection. If you are coming from further afield (Christchurch, Dunedin, or Cromwell), drive along SH6 through the incredibly picturesque but winding Kawarau Gorge from Cromwell. Arrowtown is a spectacular 40-minute drive from Cromwell.
By bus
Travel to Arrowtown from Queenstown or Frankton by using the Orbus bus service. The bus loop for Arrowtown is the #2 Arthurs Point to Arrowtown route and travel on these public buses is $2 with an Orbus Bee Card.
By taxi & shuttle
There are several taxi companies who service Arrowtown and some of the larger, neighbouring businesses (including Millbrook Resort and Ayrburn) offer limited guest shuttles to and from the Arrowtown town centre.
By bike
Arrowtown is in the middle of the Queenstown Trail, a 130km network of bike trails which connects the Whakatipu Basin with the Gibbston wine region. The town has plenty of places to park up your bike and explore on foot, or you can take to the trails on your bike.
By bus
