About Arrowtown

Arrowtown (Kā-Muriwai) is a working town renowned for its beauty, gold-mining heritage and community feel

Located just 20 minutes from Queenstown in the Queenstown-Lakes district of Aotearoa New Zealand, Arrowtown is a popular spot for lovers of nature and the outdoors, history, delicious food and shops.

The centre of Arrowtown is filled with heritage gold-rush era buildings which are now home to cafés, shops, offices and the Lakes District Museum. Buckingham Street stretches into a tree-lined avenue of tiny miners’ cottages and from there you can explore the wider town or nature on your doorstep. The hills and rivers that once teemed with gold miners are now an inspiration for artists, and a mecca for hikers, runners and bikers, our locals and their furry friends, and our visitors.

Arrowtown Locals

Meet the locals

Arrowtown locals are a passionate and welcoming local community, who love the picturesque setting as much as our visitors. Venture into town or the hills and you will likely find locals planting trees or helping maintain the historical elements of town, cycling the trails, or simply appreciating the surroundings at an event or eatery. We encourage you to say hi and have a chat. Many locals love to get to know our visitors and share an insider tip or two.
